Alice Dabrowski signs new Dodos contract
Most of the newspapers have missed it, which is hardly surprising given the rugby fever sweeping the country; and to be honest, given the hysteria that follows his every move, he probably wanted it that way. But Feverpitcher keeps a keen ear to the sporting turf, and none more so than when celebrity hockey side the Mighty Dodos are involved. Which allows us to break Friday’s big news: star forward Alice Dabrowski has signed a new two-year deal for the Dodos.
“Alice had a number of lucrative offers from clubs across Europe,” Dabrowski’s agent, former South African fast bowler David Terbrugge, told Feverpitcher. “He also considered an offer from a team in Pakistan, given that his father’s family come from Karachi. But after discussions with Dodos management, Alice has decided he’d like to stay in Cape Town on the back of great 2007 season.”
2007 saw Dabrowski play a key role in the Mighty Dodos winning their league, and much will be expected of the diminutive 30-year-old as the horizon on his hockey career draws closer. A record signing from the Wanderers two years ago - unconfirmed figures suggesting he moved for 15 cases of Black Label quarts, one of Schalk Burger’s Springbok jerseys, and a year’s subscription to Loslyf magazine - Dabrowski is currently believed to be in the Maldives with South African model Annique Pienaar, and should join the side for pre-season training on November 1.
