Justin Kemp and Herschelle Gibbs

Kemp and Gibbs - oh so relaxed…

A retrospective gem from the Feverpitcher photo vault, that suggests we could have had a pretty shrewd bet on which two players would lead South Africa home in their opening game against the West Indies. Go back 36 hours or so from the winning runs being struck for South Africa, and you would have found two particularly relaxed looking gentlemen hosting a breakfast for Standard Bank employees (tough call: runner teller desk number three all morning, or hang out with Justin and Hersch…).

Granted, JKII and Herschelle are a laid back pair at the best of times, but Monday was an unruffled affair even by their standards, the imminent delight of unrestrained big hitting clearly appealing to both men. And with good reason: Gibbs cracked an explosive 90, Kemp an incendiary 46, and both men were still there at the end. Relaxed about the Twenty20 World Cup? If you’re Herschelle Gibbs and Justin Kemp, why wouldn’t you be?
