Veteran Dodo leads team home

Another great result for hockey’s celebrity superstars on Tuesday night - a 1-0 victory over a tough Durbanville outfit, which means that the Pinelands Mighty Dodos stay on top of the league with just three games to go. The bearded Zimbabwean Michael Van Beuningen got the only goal of the game, but it was the inspirational leadership of diminutive veteran forward Alice Dabrowski that saw the Dodos home to a crucial victory.

Dabrowski (pictured) first played for the Dodos in the late 80s, alongside such Dodos greats as Scott Picken, who went on to spend several successful seasons with the original World Wrestling Federation in America. Now very much a father figure to the team, Dabrowski is still going strong, and defying his years to give the Dodos a vital edge.

And with just three matches left in the season, a first title in six years is now in reach for a team that’s seen more social pages than back pages in recent years. Both Andrew Stone and Shaun MacDonald have figured in ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ polls in The Herald newspaper back in their native Zimbabwe, Grant ‘The Wall’ Holton gets thrown out of nightclubs on a weekly basis, and week after week assorted Dodos are romantically linked to models and soap stars. But under the influence of Dabrowski, who takes a vow of chastity for the duration of every season, the Mighty Dodos are a focused outfit in 2007 - and Feverpitcher looks forward to joining in the league celebrations in a few weeks.
