Cheetahs versus Bulls

Cheetahs keep rolling on

Can anyone stop them? The Cheetahs-Bulls clash was supposed to be the game that really pushed a Free State side imperious thus far in the Absa Currie Cup. The result? A rampant Cheetahs performance, and a strong suggestion that it’ll be more than just 50% of the trophy landing up in Bloemfontein at the end of the season.

More importantly, though, the Absa Currie Cup has survived saturation World Cup coverage in the last few weeks. Sure, everyone has been following the Springbok build-up carefully, but a combination of the Absa Currie Cup’s legacy in South Africa, and the fact that this is a nation hopelessly addicted to the game of rugby, has seen the domestic competition get loads of attention despite the looming tournament in France.

That might waver a little when the rugby kicks off in Paris next month, but there’ll be unabated Currie Cup fever in Bloemfontein, as well as in Pretoria and Durban, the Bulls and Sharks leading the opposition to a Cheetahs title under Naka Drotske. Feverpitcher can’t see the trophy anywhere but the Free State, to be honest; the fact that so many people are still keeping such a close on the local game, however, is the real point to take heed of.
