Cape Town fans launch McLaren club

Every now and then an email floats across Feverpitcher’s desktop that catches the eye; cue our support, after a brief flurry of correspondence, for Cape Town’s new McLaren fan club, launched by diehard McLaren fans Jacqui Turner and Svetlana Maltski. Ferrari fans beware…

“We were just sick of Ferrari getting so much attention when McLaren was the team with genuine passion and soul, things Ferrari clearly lacked,” explains Turner, a Cape Town waitress who hopes to crack this season’s Idols auditions after three successive failures. “Now that Lewis (Hamilton) is following on from Fernando (Alonso) last season, we thought we’d form a supporters club, watch the races together, and generally celebrate the true champions of Formula 1.”

Turner’s partner in the endeavour is Ukrainian Svetlana Maltski, who left Kiev for South Africa in February, and is now working as a dancer in Cape Town in between supporting McLaren. “I love McLaren,” Maltski tells Feverpitcher in broken English, her team cap firmly in place; “go Mr. Lewis!” Two nutcase McLaren fans, then, but fans with plenty to celebrate; if you’re interested in joining the fledgling supporters club, drop Feverpitcher a line, and we’ll put you in touch.
