Grant ‘The Wall’ Holton stars in Ride Her Cup
Usually he’s the pillar of the Pinelands Mighty Dodos defence; this week, however, Grant ‘The Wall’ Holton is part of the eight-man Lowveld team, taking on the Highveld in the inaugural running of the Ride Her Cup, amateur golf’s biggest new clash playing out across the Garden Route.
Holton broke 100 for the first time this year in Wednesday’s first day at Simola; he then managed it again on Friday at Plett Country Club. It wasn’t enough for the Lowveld at Simola, the coastal team going down 3-1, but at Plett a 2-2 tie amongst the four four-balls sets up the Lowveld with an outside chance at Pezula on Saturday.
And with the Highveld team including both insurance salesman Phil Redshaw, who’s managed 35 double bogeys and one single bogey over 36 holes so far, and Nic Hughes, the Indian-based amateur whose self-inflicted groin strain has taken considerable distance off his driver, the Lowveld, featuring Feverpitcher editor Dan Nicholl, look good for a well-deserved victory on Saturday. The golf world holds its breath.
