Bartlett and Binkin down Nicholl and Radebe
Blair Atholl won’t see a more illustrious fourball this year: Feverpitcher ed Dan Nicholl, former Leeds and Bafana Bafana skipper Lucas Radebe, ex-Charlton striker Shaun Bartlett (now with Chiefs), and their agent Glyn Binkin. Lining up on Gary Player’s magnificent new course just past Lanseria Airport outside of Johannesbrug, it made for 18 holes of scintillating matchplay, ferocious competition, and a running water fight between racing golf carts that underlined the serious nature of the competition.
The full report on the clash will be out in Compleat Golfer later on this year, along with some cracking pictures; for now, we’ll leave with the shock result, Bartlett and Binkin combined to secure victory on the 16th hole of a long but beautiful course (the par-three third might just be the prettiest short hole in the country). It’s undoubtedly the defining moment of Bartlett’s career; Radebe, meanwhile, cut a devastated figure on the 16th green. Re-match is definitely on the cards, and Blair Atholl wouldn’t be a bad venue. We’ll keep you posted.
