Zinedine Zidane playing again

That’s right, the French-Algerian genius is indeed playing again… but this time it’s with kids, as part of the Right To Play campaign, which - in partnership with the Adi Dassler Fund, which is supported by adidas - is focusing attention on sport as a platform for helping disadvantaged and underprivileged children across the planet.

And it’s a simple campaign, albeit one with plenty of promise. The symbol of the Right To Play campaign is a red football, and replica balls will be on sale around the world as a fundraising initiative; 20 000 footballs will also be distributed to kids in need. The Laureus Sport For Foundation has shown just how much sport can do for a community; the Right To Play project follows a similar path. Look out for little red soccer balls in sale in South Africa from September 1 - and for a familiar French footballing face spearheading a very worthy campaign. Even Marco Materazzi would have to approve…
