General Holomisa the golfer

Feverpitcher goes to great lengths to secure original angles on the sporting world for you - and if it means travelling up to Fancourt to play in the Absa Premier’s Invitational with General Bantu Holomisa, well, I’ll grit my teeth and get on with it…

The nine Absa Premier’s Invitational events around South Africa are making their debut this year, glamorous affairs that have rocketed up the list of must-play events on the VIP golf schedule. The field included Steve Booysen, Schalk Burger Senior, Oscar Grobler, Selwayn Nathan, Oxford rugby star Andrew Jury - and one golf-addicted general, who’s got a fair touch for the game after just three years of weilding a club.

Team Holomisa managed to finish just two points behind the winners, who qualify for the national final later this year. Hitting a gentle left to right shape, and knocking in some outrageous putts, the general also found a couple of living rooms on the Outeniqua course (which is in delightful condition at the moment). And like the rest of the field, he had a great day out; eight to go this year, so make sure you stay on good terms with your local Premier/Absa bank manager…
