Bermuda’s 19-stone superstar
Feverpitcher has a new favourite cricketer to watch out for at the World Cup: Dwayne Leverock, Bermuda’s slow left-arm spinner, policeman, and 19-stone superstar. More Inzi than Kate Moss, ‘Sluggo’ caught the world’s attention in Bermuda’s warm-up game against England, taking two for 32 in a display of guile, flight, and some fundamental defiance of the laws of physics.
He’s not Bermuda’s Jonty Rhodes, perhaps, but he’s a lusty hitter of a cricket ball (although Bermuda’s total of 45 in the England game suggests belligerent hundreds from Leverock are unlikely at the World Cup), and more importantly, a character to give the smaller teams a look in on the back pages.
And he’s also an inspiration: after all if a 19-stone cricketer can go to a World Cup, what else might lie ahead? Captaining your country? Captaining the World XI? Dating a celebrity underwear model? Who knows; for plump cricketers around the world, Dwayne Leverock is the new poster boy…

Love this guy! Hope he gets plenty of airtime in the next month.

Check his wikipedia article, apparently he’s won a lot of hot dog eating contests or something, pretty crazy!

Dan! Surely you remember one Richie Kaschula, the rather large left arm finger spinner who probably still holds the record for the best bowling analysis in the Currie Cup. Your hazard pants wouldn’t even have made a wrist band for Ritchie.
