New-look Aussies unveiled

No, not a new team, although recent results would suggest that wouldn’t be the worst idea; instead, the latest incarnation of Australia’s green and custard yellow strip, the colours that also adorn the Wallabies and the Socceroos. The ICC’s stringent sponsorship regulations (remember the Coke/Pepsi battle here in 2003) have meant Travelex had to forego sponsorship rights to the Australian team; a new brand has been swiftly acquired, and so the lurid custard strip for West Indies 2007 will be splattered with Emirates logos.

And we’ll see plenty of them in a couple of weeks, with March 24 the biggest day on the immediate horizon: Australia versus South Africa, in all likelihood for the top spot in the group stages. March 13 is day one of the tournament; teams are already arriving, and World Cup fever is gathering steam…
