Great advert for the game

Packed house, quality football, thrilling finish - and the Chiefs fans left the stadium intact, despite losing a crunch game. The PSL doesn’t always get the greatest press, and SuperSport’s glossy coverage of the European game often makes local televised fare appear somewhat meagre. But Saturday afternoon’s Chiefs-Sundowns match illustrated all that’s good about South African club football.

The money Patrice Motsepe has thrown at Sundowns has given him an enviable squad, and a repeat of last season’s title is very much on track after a 2-1 win over Chiefs that included the rare sight of a ‘keeper (Chiefs’ Rowan Fernandez) scoring from the penalty spot. Sundowns aren’t top (Ajax Cape Town lead after Friday night’s win over Bloem Celtic), but have games in hand - and if they play out the season in a similar fashion to Saturday’s afternoon’s cracker, they’ll take some beating. Sit back and enjoy.
