It wasn’t all that long ago that Gcobani Bobo was a Springbok centre, a star of the game, and South Africa’s most famous Rastafarian. But after a couple of serious injuries, a move down to the Sharks, and nagging questions about his defensive capabilities, Bobo’s star has steadily waned, and he’s now reduced to turning out for Paul Treu’s sevens outfit, having not been included in any of the five Super 14 squads for 2007. Fun as a spot on the sevens circuit may be, it’s a definite step down in South African rugby’s grand order. But if it gives Bobo the chance to get his confidence back, and regain the spark that saw him first catch the eye, then maybe it’s all for the best. Here’s hoping.
