How does a plump, middle-aged, bespectacled Englishman get a million hits a month on his website? When said Englishman is Indian-born Bob Woolmer, the former coach of South Africa, now looking after Pakistan. His website is an online temple for cricket-mad Pakistanis in America in particular, all seeking contact with one of the game’s outstanding theorists. I MC’d a dinner at Newlands on Wednesday night that Bob attended, at which he passed on news of his site’s traffic - confirmation of both Bob’s status, and the unstinting power of cricket in Asia.

That might drop slightly if he heads off to England post-World Cup (”appointed coach of Pakistan - and I’m still standing!” reads his website), but he’ll remain a massive online presence that few could match. A million hits a month at www.mickeyarthur.com? Nope, I can’t see it either.
