Un-Stottable…

Hank MacGregor’s day one disaster, when he took a wrong turn during a portage and lost what had been a two and a half minute lead, threatened to be the defining moment of this year’s Dusi.

In the end, though, Ant Stott’s record-breaking charge put a regal seal on this year’s race: not just victory, but victory with six minutes taken off Len Jenkins’ 2001 record. Throw in Abby Miedema decimating the women’s record, and you had some splendid paddling on show this year - and with canoeing getting stronger and stronger, and more and more paddlers out on the water, here’s one sport South Africans fans should be able to take solace from in 2007, if a pair of World Cups don’t go according to plan.
