Australian Open brawl

Finally - a real sporting battle

Big tennis tournaments tend to take a few days to warm up, a string of local wildcards and no name journeymen providing warm-up cannon fodder for the seeded stars, with only the occasional upset to pique the attention. Clearly nothing much of interest in Melbourne as the Australian Open got underway: 150 Croatian and Serbian fans got kicked out of the event after an enthusiastic brawl at Melbourne Park. Granted, Australia’s a savage and underdeveloped backwater, but a crowd rioting on day one? One suggests this sort of thing simply wouldn’t happen at Wimbledon…
