Keohane’s book joins the Christmas queue
The past weekend saw a blur of media response to Jake White’s much-anticipated autobiography, ‘In Black and White’, a book that’s unlikely to further endear him to the Watson family, the Presidents Council, or the crowd down at SARU. Three good reasons to hope it’s in Feverpitcher’s stocking come Christmas morning; there’s competition on the horizon, however, from what could turn out to be this season’s feelgood gift.
Maverick journo Mark Keohane has had a colourful relationship with the game, highlighted by his spell as Harry Viljoen’s valet, which ended in a high-profile resignation in the subsequent Straeuli era; now head honcho at Highbury Safika, he oversees SA Rugby magazine, the phenomenally successful www.keo.co.za, and - for the duration of the World Cup - rugby coverage for the Independent Newspapers group. Which leads to the coffee table publication in question…
‘Champions of the World: Seven Magnificent Weeks’ promises to be a gushing account of the World Cup triumph, photographs laden with pathos running alongside adoring copy. And why not - sentiment ran riot after Paris, and capturing it as such makes perfect sense. The foreward from Jake White adds to the authenticity of the publication, and sets up Keohane’s Christmas target as a colourful rival for White’s own autobiography. Feverpitcher will be buying both - and will doubtless get several more copies come December 25.

Commando Boot Camp: we’re dead
Wednesday, 14th November 2007 at 10:28 pm
Feverpitcher hasn’t slept much this past week, and those many waking hours have been filled with a sense of impending doom. We’ve done some silly things in the past, but this outstrips all of them by a mile: in a …
Can anyone stop Jacques Kallis?
Wednesday, 14th November 2007 at 10:17 pm
So that’s 9 000 Test runs out the way, then, with close to 30 hundreds and an average nudging 60 thrown in for good measure. No double hundred, perhaps, but that’s almost being pedantic: all told, the Jacques Kallis Test …
Jim Furyk and Sergio Garcia to skip Sun City
Wednesday, 14th November 2007 at 10:07 pm
One of Feverpitcher’s favourite Sun City moments is the sight of Sergio Garcia on the dance floor at Trader’s - the bar everyone tends to end up in sooner or later - in the small hours of the morning, clearly …
Victor Matfield joins the exodus
Wednesday, 14th November 2007 at 9:54 pm
It’s fast becoming the farewell tour no one wants to go on… Jake White’s penultimate South African tour - unless Feverpitcher is very much mistaken, there’s a lengthy book tour still to come - was set to be a last grand …
No surprises as Jake White departs
Wednesday, 31st October 2007 at 5:39 pm
Saddened? Most certainly. Surprised? No, unfortunately not. That Jake White survived the gauntlet of South African rugby for as long as he did, let alone won the World Cup, is testament to his self-belief, his ability, and above all his …
